| Leah and I went to our friends, Scott and Ashleigh, house for halloween. It was a lot of fun hanging out with friends from our church's community group and seeing the various costumes kids wore. I'm proud to say that Leah and I both had costumes. I'm not quite sure why I decided to be Optimus Prime from Transformers; probably because of the new movie and I was a big fan when I was younger. I also wanted to make something out of all the cardboard we had in the attic. Leah went as a Rockstar/Guitar Hero, she was pretty cool!!!

| So, for quite some time now, I've been wanting a hutch for our house. On monday we went over to my parent's house for Labor Day and this was sitting in my parent's front yard:
My dad is an antique junkie, so things like this are often in the front yard, and sometimes (if I'm lucky) he'll ask me if I want them. This, however, I thought I might have to beg for..but no. Dad doesn't have time to restore it, so it's mine for the taking...yay! Unfortunately the hutch is...well...a little needy. First of all it's green...like grass green. Secondly, the bottom part is full of decaying wood (like it's been sitting in a foot of water). Tom and I were excited to have a new project on our hands and what a better weekend to start than this, rainy weekend, right? After a quick run to our neighborhood home improvement store for some lumber and a few tools, we started tearing this baby apart. First, some demolition: (look at those muscles)
Followed by HOURS of paint scraping:
Some sanding:
(I used Tom's snow mask to keep the dust from my face, which actually worked quite well). And then ended the day puttying up all the nail holes and termite holes in some of the old wood that we can reuse.
So, after a full day of demo, sanding, scraping, puttying, 2 trips to Lowes, 2 trips to Wal-Mart and some blisters we end up with....
Ok...so demolition days don't always seem the most productive...but we're getting....somewhere. More to come! | | |
| Well....it's been a month since our last post. I would say that "not much has happened since vacation" but that would be a lie. And generally, I'm not one to lie. This past week in itself has been an experience...filled with "Leah's medical mayhem": millions of trips to the doctor, strep, wisdom teeth extractions, lumbar back spasms? and lots of medication that basically put me out of work for the week. That was the extremely short version. The best part about the week was, of course, being attended to by my very patient, very handsome Tom, who found himself in the midst of wal-mart runs, keeping track of 4 different prescriptions (what they did and when to administer them), switching out the ice-packs after every 30minutes, trying to be creative with what to feed me next (jello or mushed banana?) and keeping the house clean. He did a great job, by the way. What a guy. Now we're back to normal....mostly.
